Project Spotlight: Atlanta Luxury Hospitality Photography – Photographing the Signia by Hilton Atlanta
Rising over 35 floors next to Mercedes-Benz’s Stadium and connected To the Georgia World Congress Center, the Signia by Hilton Atlanta is designed to provide guests and elevated experience. When I was asked to photograph the Signia by Hilton Atlanta, I knew it would take lots of coordination and planning to successful capture all 900 hotel rooms and nearly 20 meeting spaces, to include the largest ballroom in all of Atlanta. As a luxury hotel and resort photographer based in Atlanta, I was up for the challenge.
After scouting the property multiple times and meeting with the Signia by Hilton Atlanta team, we settled on a shot-list of over 150 final images. This would be a combination of the guest rooms, to include all of the available suites, conference spaces, restaurants, and the exterior of the hotel. Over the course of 5 months, we worked our way through the shot-list and captured all the of the imagery necessary for website marketing and sales.
One of the biggest challenges with photographing a luxury hotel of this size is the wide variety of guest rooms that need to be photographed. There are everything from suites, king rooms, queen rooms, and ADA rooms. Additionally, as the hotel is designed for the global traveler, the Signia by Hilton Atlanta has wellness specific rooms with everything from a smart alarm clock, air purification, and more. With different room types come different bathroom as well. Nearly half of the 150+ images that were captured as a part of this project were just guest rooms.
An option for those staying at the hotel looking to truly elevate their experience can select Club Signia rooms. These rooms provide access to the Club Signia lounge. With breakfast, lunch, and dinner – and drinks – included, this space is designed to be an oasis away from the rest of the hotel. As this is a more exclusive location with the hotel, I wanted to create a more moody feel with the images to give the space elegance and ambiance.
For those not staying in Club Signia rooms, the hotel offers a number of food and beverage options. These were all challenging to photograph as the hotel was open and guests were often dining in the spaces. As such, I was not always able to photograph them at the ideal time with natural light. Part of my job as a luxury hospitality photographer is to be flexible and adaptable and still create exceptional imagery.
Exteriors are some of my favorite spaces to shoot of any building. As the building was all glass, ensuring we timed the light and reflections correctly was going to be critical to crafting excellent photos. With a backdrop of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, I knew I wanted a number of shots with the stadium reflected in the glass. Additionally, with the proximity to the stadium and city, a twilight drone shot was necessary to capture the magnificence of the building within the city.
As the first, and flag-ship Signia by Hilton, it was a big responsibility to photograph this hotel in a way that not only would draw in guests to this hotel, but also give everyone their first glimpse of the Signia brand. This was the largest project I have ever had the privilege to photograph. Due to extensive planning and coordination with the hotel, we were able to capture all 150 images necessary to show-off the entire hotel.
