Project Spotlight: Atlanta Hospitality Photography – Photographing the Hotel Phoenix
As a luxury hospitality photographer based in Atlanta, I’m always drawn to properties that tell a story – spaces where design, atmosphere, and guest experience come together seamlessly. My recent shoot at the newly opened Hotel Phoenix, located just steps from Mercedes-Benz Stadium, was exactly that kind of project.
From the moment I first walked the property, it was clear this wasn’t just another hotel. The Hotel Phoenix was an intentionally designed, upscale boutique experience. Every detail, from the architectural lines to the curated interiors, was crafted to appeal to a modern, design-conscious traveler. My role was to translate that experience into imagery that not only documents the space but helps sell to potential guests.

Scouting
Before any camera comes out, the process begins with understanding the property. I spent time scouting Hotel Phoenix in advance of the shoot, studying how the natural light entered each space, identifying key vantage points, and aligning with the brand’s visual goals.
Scouting is one of the most critical and often overlooked steps in hospitality photography. It allows me to pre-visualize compositions, plan lighting strategies, and ensure that every shot is intentional. Additionally, it helps the property to understand what each day will look like in advance to ensure a smooth shoot. At a property like Hotel Phoenix, where design is a defining feature, this preparation makes all the difference.

A Multi-Day Approach to Capturing the Experience
Luxury hospitality photography isn’t rushed and this shoot was approached with that philosophy in mind. Spanning multiple days, the timeline allowed for capturing all the spaces of the hotel in the right lighting conditions. By working across multiple days, I was able to create a complete visual narrative that reflects how guests will actually experience the property during the course of their stay.

Balancing Architecture and Atmosphere
Another factor that sets luxury hospitality photography apart is the ability to capture all the architectural elements while evoking emotion to guests. On one hand, architectural elements need to be captured cleanly and accurately. On the other, the imagery must evoke a feeling to bring guests into the space through a photograph. At Hotel Phoenix, that meant highlighting the interplay between modern architecture and warm, inviting design details. Thoughtfully styled interiors, layered textures, and carefully placed lighting all contribute to the guest experience, and my goal was to ensure those elements translated through the lens.

Crafting a Visual Identity
For boutique hotels especially, photography plays a central role in defining brand identity. Guests often encounter a property for the first time through its imagery whether it be on a website, in a booking platform, or across social media.
With Hotel Phoenix, the focus was on creating a cohesive vision of the space: modern, stylish, and luxurious. Every image needed to feel like it belonged to the same story, reinforcing the hotel’s positioning as an upscale destination in one of Atlanta’s most up and coming locations – Centennial Yards.

Final Thoughts
Photographing Hotel Phoenix was a reminder of why I love working in the hospitality space. It’s not just about documenting rooms and amenities, it’s about capturing an experience, a mood, and a sense of place. As a luxury hospitality photographer this was an opportunity to do what I do best, bring spaces to life through thoughtful and intentional imagery.
