Project Spotlight: Atlanta Architecture and Interior Design Photography – Photographing the Momentum and Kinetic Buildings

Atlanta has experienced a lot of growth over the past few years and I have been fortunate to photograph a number of buildings. The recently completed Momentum and Kinetic buildings in Midtown Atlanta are unique in that they are a connected duo that provide luxury housing – and amenities – for residents as well as Georgia Tech students. As an Atlanta-based architecture and interior design photographer, these two properties have been some of my favorite to photograph in 2024.

Momentum Atlanta is the luxury of the two buildings and is managed by Toll Brothers. The shining features of Momentum are all of the amenities for residents. On the top floor is a rooftop pool with amazing views of Atlanta. The interior was fun to photograph. From the theater room, lounge, bar, game-room, and fitness center there are lots of options for residents to get out of their apartments.

I absolutely loved the lobby of Momentum. There is a great mix of modern and classic design that I wanted to highlight. In order to do that, I had to set-up a number of lights and set-up some flags to block some light. This allowed me to control how the light came into each space. A comfortable seating area and a modern front-desk were the two highlights of the lobby.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t highlight the functional layouts of the units. Each unit has high-end appliance, space to entertain, and more. These are all highlights of Toll Brothers properties.

Connected via the parking deck, the Kinetic Building was designed as off-campus housing for Georgia Tech. Student housing like this makes me want to go back to college! When you walk in to the lobby, you know that this building will have all of the amenities – and more – that you would want as a student. Ample seating and lounge space exists along with a coffee / bar area if you need to catch-up with classmates before or after studying. It was important for me to capture each space in a way that tells the story of how the lobby connects to the rest of the building – to include the two story fitness center.

Heading upstairs, there are more amenities, like an exterior lounge and study space as well as a pool for relaxing. An indoor lounge and game room is the perfect place to relax and watch Georgia Tech sports on TV. My favorite room, and one of the more challenging to photograph, was the video game room. If you like e-sports, this is the place to be.

The units in Kinetic are designed with students in mind. Each unit has a shared kitchen, dining, and living area and the bedrooms all have their own bathroom. A definite plus as a student.

Kinetic and Momentum are unique in that they are connected buildings with very different clientele. My goal with capturing both buildings was to not only highlight the differences, but show that connectivity through the style of the final imagery. With such a large shot-list that required multiple visits, it was important to have coordination with my client and the properties to ensure a successful shoot.
